A mature game to be sure, but a 6th grader should be able to handle it. This game does have a lot of violence. the game has "Adam" a fictional hype-addictive drug that grants superpowers (Summoning lightning bolts, telekinesis, etc.)This game is definitely an 18 and might not be appropriate for viewing at work, here are my reasons: Extreme Violence, Blood and Gore, Racism, Infrequent strong language, mild sex references and general intensity. Blood sprays when shooting human enemies with a wide array of guns. The player can use Vigors to burn, and electrocute people, the player can also send murderous crows at enemies. After possessing a human, they will kill themselves.

Why is BioShock rated M : And these games might be very cool, but they are not for kids. These games have a lot of violence, have a lot of swearing, has both sexual and drug references.

Is BioShock ok for a 15 year old : Well, this game is rated "M" due to graphic violence, sexual themes, use of alcohol and tobacco. That said, any 14 year old that watches TV has already been exposed to copious amounts of all those, so it's really no harm done, if you ask me.

For conservative it would be 17. Whatever you feel comfortable with. I personally prefer the lower side around 12. They can handle it and it is a good story with a good lesson if they follow the story.

As for the story, yes, it is a bit sophisticated for a 12 year old. However, I do think a child of that age would still get enjoyment from many of the themes, plot twists, and environment. Just be prepared, the voice acting and script is top notch. This isn't really cartoon or animated violence.
